Compare your options

We would rather you chose us knowing.

There are four realistic ways to get from the Southern Tablelands to Sydney Airport, and we are only one of them. Here is the honest version, including where the others genuinely win.

Southern Tablelands to Sydney Airport, four ways.

Structure rather than dollars. Ticket prices, meters and parking rates all move, so check the current ones yourself — but the shape of each option does not change.

Where each one genuinely wins.

The train

If you are travelling alone, mid-morning, with one bag and no deadline, the train is cheaper than us and we will say so plainly.

What it is not is door to airport. It runs to Central, so you add the Airport Link leg, a change with your luggage, and the walk at both ends. And it does not run early enough for a morning departure, which is when most people out here actually need to travel.

Train vs shuttle →

Driving and parking

Full control, leave when you like, and for a single overnight trip it can work out reasonably.

The costs are the ones people forget: four hundred kilometres of driving on the day you fly and again when you land, fuel, tolls, and airport parking that accrues for every day you are away. A fortnight in Europe means a fortnight of parking, and you drive the Hume tired at both ends.

Parking vs shuttle →

Taxi or rideshare

Honestly, this one rarely competes from out here — not because of price alone but because of availability.

Rideshare thins out fast once you leave the coast, and a country taxi to Sydney is a metered job with no fixed price and a return leg you are paying for whether you are in the car or not. At 2am neither is a plan you would want to depend on.

The honest summary

Two questions decide it.

How many of you are going? Our fare is per booking, everything else is per person or per car. One traveller on a mid-morning flight might well be better off on the train. Two or more, and the arithmetic turns quickly.

What time does the plane leave? If it is before about nine in the morning, the train is out and driving means starting in the dark. That is the situation most Tablelands travellers are actually in, and it is the one we are built for.

Comparison questions

What people want settled.

Is the shuttle cheaper than the train?

For one person, usually not. For two, it gets close. For three or four it is generally cheaper, because our fare covers the vehicle rather than each seat — and the train fare is per ticket, each way.

Why no dollar figures for the other options?

Because they move. Train fares, taxi meters and airport parking rates all change, and quoting a stale number in our own favour would not be an honest comparison. Check the current ones and hold them against our published fare.

Is driving myself really that expensive?

It depends entirely on how long you are away. An overnight trip is cheap; a fortnight means a fortnight of airport parking plus fuel and tolls both ways, and four hundred kilometres of driving on the two days you least want to do it.

Can I get an Uber from Goulburn to the airport?

Sometimes, and unreliably. Rideshare coverage out here is thin and gets thinner as you move away from town and away from daylight hours. It is not something we would plan a flight around.

What about the coach services?

They run, and they are cheap, but they run to their own timetable rather than yours and they are not door to door. Same trade-off as the train, with an extra transfer.

When would you tell me not to book you?

Solo traveller, flight after about ten in the morning, one bag, no rush, and you do not mind the changes — take the train. We will say so on the phone rather than take a booking you did not need.

Compared it and we stack up? Here is your fare.

Published, fixed, per booking. No deposit and nothing charged until after drop-off.

Not sure which option suits you? Ask and we will tell you honestly.
